Family of turmeric murder case C.Sugumar reject post-mortem findings Posted: 24 Jan 2013 11:36 AM PST N. Surendran, Latheefa Koya We refer to the claim by Kajang police chief that police did not beat C.Sugumar to death and that he died of a heart attack. This statement is a blatant attempt by police to cover-up the case, with the connivance of the Serdang Hospital. Three eyewitnesses have come forward who have testified that Sugumar was chased down by police, handcuffed, beaten and smeared with turmeric. How can the police claim that there was no foul-play, when they have not even recorded the statements of these three witnesses?
The claim by Serdang Hospital that Sugumar died of a heart attack is inherently incredible. Sugumar had no health problems and was only 40 years old. It is unbelievable that a healthy man should suddenly collapse and die immediately upon arrest. When we viewed the body in the mortuary, the deceased was still handcuffed and there was turmeric powder on his face. There were also lacerations consistent with a struggle against the police assailants as described by the witnesses. The police attempt to exonerate themselves by issuing false statements is thus a serious perversion of the course of justice. It is claimed that the Serdang Hospital forensics department found that Sugumar died of a heart attack. It should be noted that the Serdang Hospital has a history of falsifying post-mortem findings in favour of the police authorities. In the A.Kugan case, Serdang Hospital falsely claimed that Kugan died of water in the lungs when in fact he had been beaten to death in police custody. The Serdang pathologist Prof Dr Abdul Karim Tajuddin was subsequently found guilty by the Malaysian Medical Council(MMC) of professional misconduct for falsifying Kugan's post-mortem findings. Yesterday, Serdang Hospital once again breached medical ethics by refusing to let Sugumar's family see the body, on instructions from the police. The family were only allowed to see the body upon the insistence of lawyers and activists, after 4 hours of waiting. Serdang Hospital and the Health Ministry have brought shame upon the medical profession. The family of Sugumar will lodge complaints against Serdang Hospital and its pathologists with the MMC in due course. We demand, on behalf of Sugumar's next-of-kin, that Sugumar's death be classified as murder under s.302 Penal Code. We further demand that all police officers implicated be immediately suspended and arrested to facilitate investigations. We also call upon the IGP to allow and facilitate the carrying out of a second post-mortem upon Sugumar's remains. Until the second post-mortem is carried out satisfactorily, the family will not claim the body.

Incorrigible UMNO leaders continue to shamelessly equate “public interest” to “UMNO ... Posted: 24 Jan 2013 11:18 AM PST
He even defended that the project is beneficial to the public because "Umno members could get a 12 percent discount at the apartments" while ordinary bumiputras can get 7% discount. Tony Pua Despite the Prime Minister's continued assertion that UMNO has "transformed" and "learnt from the mistakes of the past", its leaders continue to be completely shameless when defending the obvious wrong doings of their past. In the latest expose by Ng Suee Lim and Shuhaimi Shafiei on the land grab by Kota Raja UMNO, the latter paid only RM1,000 in premium for 4 acres of land worth at least RM2.8 million in Section 25, Shah Alam. While the land was originally slated for building a sports and recreation complex with a community centre, the site visit had found only nearly completed apartments and shoplots. However, when queried by Malaysiakini, former Kota Raja Umno chief Amzah Umar has denied any wrongdoing over the latest allegations, saying that "the medium-cost apartments are meant for public interest." Amzah was also the former state assemblyman of Sri Muda. He even defended that the project is beneficial to the public because "Umno members could get a 12 percent discount at the apartments" while ordinary bumiputras can get 7% discount. It appears that the Animal Farm cannot be more true for UMNO – "All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others". In fact, Amzah had the cheek to deny that there isn't "anything unusual" in that the Umno division and MBSA only paid RM1,000 in land premiums. It is obvious that UMNO is unable to differentiate between the interest of UMNO, the party, its leaders and members, from that of the interest of the public. They have shown no remorse over the fact that such actions is no different from stealing the wealth of the people to profit UMNO and Barisan Nasional. Based on the response of Amzah and other leaders over the earlier land-grab exposes in Selangor, it cannot be more clear that if Barisan Nasional is re-elected into Government, they will continue to pillage and plunder the wealth and assets of the state at the expense of the man-on-the-street. The contrast with the Pakatan Rakyat administration cannot be more stark. After 5 years of administration, no Pakatan Rakyat component parties or its elected representatives have received a single piece of land from the state government. We call upon Selangor Barisan Nasional and UMNO leaders, to announce that if these "projects" were indeed in public interest, then all profits arising from these projects should be returned to the State Government so that the monies could then be spent on the welfare of Selangorians as well as upgrading the infrastructure of the state. Despite UMNO having robbed 5.4 million Selangorians, the Prime Minister has chosen to remain elegantly silent on the above issue. Datuk Seri Najib Razak who is also the Selangor UMNO Chief must get his house in order by explaining the land grab scandal and accepting responsility for UMNO's sins. Otherwise, his call for "transformation" is nothing by empty rhetoric to hoodwink Malaysians.

Remove Classes – Listen to the stakeholders Posted: 22 Jan 2013 12:01 PM PST
I think the DPM and other groups need to speak to the current stake holders of the Remove Classes, i.e. the students, teachers and parents before deciding on the effectiveness of the Remove Classes. I would urge them to LISTEN to the 'recent" past students of Remove Classes and ask if the Remove Classes had helped them in any way. SP Nathan The PM and DPM had with great pomp announced in September 2012 that among other changes to the Education Blue Print was the removal of Remove classes and the introduction of remedial classes in year Four onwards in primary schools. However in a surprising twist, the media reported late last year that the DPM cum Education Minister had verbally agreed to retain the remove classes due to the pressure from certain groups. Lately the grapevine is abuzz that the announcement on the Blue Print at the end of this month would do just that … retain the remove classes. Now, the issue to content with is a simple question. Are the remove classes helping students in gaining a better grasp of Bahasa Malaysia and help in their transition to Form 1. To date there is no detailed study on this issue except one by an NGO in the middle of last year. That study clearly found that Remove Classes do not achieve their stated purpose and called for either its removal or complete overhaul. Admittedly the announcement on the Removal of Remove classes last year brought relief to some and sorrow for others. Let us analyze the varying thoughts on this. One: there is obviously a lot of distrust on the educational policies and its motives. This I find, is the main reason on the reluctance of certain groups to accept the changes proposed. To say that this suspicion is not founded on any truth may not be fair. The state of affairs of our Education system and its products provides amble evidence that "past policies" have failed and the new one is nothing more than "packages" for further failure. So in the case of the Remove Classes, I can understand the wariness of the opposing forces. But again can we continue to allow our suspicions to undermine the "life" of young people who are facing challenges and need help but become hapless victims of politicking. In the case of Remove Classes, what we find in the classes are really students who need help. The nine months or so that they are going to spend in the Remove Classes, under the present state of affairs, cannot help them. They are going to end up in the fringes and become social outcast if proper help and guidance is denied. As suggested by the Blue Print, its better to identify the weak students early, in this case as the Blue Print suggest from year 4 onwards and give them remedial classes. There is no need to wait for them to go to Remove Classes. LISTEN to the teachers of Remove Classes and gauge if they are able to help and guide the students positively. LISTEN to the parents of the Remove Class students and ask if they are happy with their children in remove classes and if there is any change. AND finally, LISTEN to your inner voice and ask yourself this question …. Will you send your child to the Remove Classes given the current state of affairs. Please do not gamble with the lives of the innocent for the sake of political expediency. Do what is good for these children. They are after all also our children.

Two Thirds of Pakatan Okays Use of 'Allah' By Non-Muslims Posted: 22 Jan 2013 11:00 AM PST
If PAS as a key partner of Pakatan behaves in this extreme manner, when they are only waiting in wings eagerly to take over the government, what will happen when are given full reigns of the government? Concerned Voter It is often said that the Indians, who form about 8 per cent of the population will be king makers in the coming General Elections, whenever it is to be held. A seldom realised fact is that the Christians in Malaysia form a larger portion of the population than Indians and will play a crucial role in deciding the outcome of the coming elections. So each Christian must consider carefully who they will vote. Recent events in Malaysia must be carefully studied and analysed by each and every Christian. The "Allah" issue is certainly a major issue. The Allah issue has clearly shown how divided a party Pakatan is. Lim Guan Seng in his Christmas message for 2012 said Christians must be allowed to use the word 'Allah' in their worship. Anwar Ibrahim sought to achieve a consensus among the Pakatan parties and has failed dismally. In fact, his attempts at reaching a solution has shown the widening cracks within the party. Can PAS with its flip flop stance on the Allah issue be trusted? First they said Christians could use the term but now have hardened their stand and have said Christians cannot use the term after the meeting of the Syura Council. Anwar Ibrahim has not commented on Nik Aziz's statement. But his lieutenant, Azmin Ali has announced Pakatan Rakyat stands by its decision that non-Malays can use the term 'Allah'. What he is effectively saying is that two thirds of the party allows Christians to use the term. At best, Pakatan is shoring up trouble for later. Most probably after the elections! The turnabout by PAS coupled with restrictions placed on Chinese New Year Shows in Kedah only serves to show the true extreme face of PAS. Not many would have forgotten the fiasco in Kelantan over women workers cutting men's hair and the ban of the sale of lottery tickets. There have also been restrictions in women workers' attire in supermarkets as well as prohibition of unmarried couples sitting together in Cinemas in Kelantan. Regarding the Allah issue, not only the Christians are affected, but so are the Sikhs, who have always used the term "Allah" in their religious texts. Perhaps it is divine providence that the PAS turnabout on the 'Allah' issue has come about at this juncture, as we look forward to the General Election which has to take place this year. The 'Allah' question and other related issues which have surfaced are only the tip of the iceberg of Islamic extremism. If PAS as a key partner of Pakatan behaves in this extreme manner, when they are only waiting in wings eagerly to take over the government, what will happen when are given full reigns of the government? Not only Christians, but all Malaysians must therefore weigh the issues affecting religion and personal liberties carefully before they vote.

What unethical depths and bottomless pits are going to be plumbed by UMNO/BN leaders and their ... Posted: 21 Jan 2013 01:48 PM PST
Publishing lies and falsehoods already violate the most elementary ethics and canons of journalism, but to concoct lies and falsehoods just to extract political capital but utterly heedless of the pain and suffering they would cause to individuals who are already under great stress and pressure as NST had done to Wong Ho Leng and Irene Chang is a most wretched and contemptible deed, and only those who are inhumane and even inhuman can approve of such an action.
Lim Kit Siang Yesterday, I made a plea for an end to the politics of lies and falsehoods in the run-up to the 13th General Elections, which must be held latest in 156 days by June 27, but is expected to be held in less than 70 days.
I was referring to the latest defamation suit lost by UMNO mouthpiece, Utusan Malaysia, this time to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, earning a rebuke by the judge, Justice V.T. Singham who found Utusan Melayu (M) Bhd and its chief editor Abdul Aziz Ishak as guilty of damaging Anwar's reputation and exposing him to ridicule and scorn.
In his judgment, Singham stressed that journalists and editors should be careful with what they write so as not to include comment, which may impugn somebody.
This was shown by another egregious lie and falsehood by the UMNO/BN mainstream media today – this time by New Straits Times in its false report headlined "Wife of ailing MP angry at DAP", (p.6) which was nothing but a pack of lies without an ounce of truth.
Quoting another rogue news portal, the NST claimed that Irene Chang, the wife of Sibu DAP member of parliament and Sarawak DAP Chairman Wong Ho Leng, "is said to have criticized the party for failing to provide or offer financial support to her husband, who has a brain tumour" and even quoting her as saying that "the party's leadership was heartless" and scolding DAP Secretary-General, Lim Guan Eng.
What makes NST action most unforgivable is that Irene Chang had put the following clarification on her facebook yesterday: "I have been made aware of a certain article posted online and which reported me as having complained against our party leadership. "I am absolutely furious. There is absolutely no truth in this article. "I did not give any interview nor did I ever complain against our party or against anyone. More importantly, never did I ever feel, for a second that I have a cause to complain against our party or anyone in specific. " In fact, since my husband's medical condition was diagnosed, I have been too worried and concerned about his medical condition than to worry whether the party is providing any financial support or otherwise. "But having said this, I put on record that since our party leaders have been told of my husband's condition, each and everyone of them, have been unbelievably supportive and caring. "Both my husband and I have, in fact felt that we have been very blessed to know these people, who have somehow, crossed over the line from being political comrades to being very caring friends. "And my family and I have been very touched by the call for support for my husband by our Secretary General, YAB Lim Guan Eng, an appreciation of which was posted by our eldest daughter, Suzanne Gail Wong, in her facebook on 14th January 2013. "Therefore, it would be very unfair and unjust to let this article be passed around for people to pass judgment on our party leaders, our party and me, without any basis at all. I therefore strongly condemn this article for each and every sentence therein is a lie."
The question I want to pose to UMNO/BN leaders today is what unethical depths and bottomless pits are they and UMNO/BN mainstream media going to plumb before the 13GE? |
Is BN Replicating The Sabah Formula For The Coming GE? Posted: 21 Jan 2013 10:51 AM PST
The 6P programme which ran from July 2011 to April 2012 had registered more than 1.3 million immigrants under the biometric system. Is BN replicating the Sabah formula for the coming GE? Paraman Subramaniam Chua Jui Meng had stated recently that the NRD has reportedly issued 2 million identity cards to foreigners to enable them to vote BN in the coming GE. He claims that the BN government will intimidate and abuse the government machinery to remain in power using the NRD and the Election Commission as its instruments. The figure 2 million does raise eyebrows in disbelief but recent revelations from witnesses testifying before the royal commission of inquiry (RCI) into the alleged citizenship-for-votes scam in Sabah has brought new light into this matter. Kee Dzulkifly Kee Abdul Jalil who was part of a special unit dubbed G17, which operated out of the Sabah National Registration Department (NRD) headquarters in Kota Kinabalu was responsible for processing the application forms for some 100,000 blue identity cards for Muslim immigrants mainly from Indonesia, Philippines and Pakistan and the issuance of some 200,000 letters of approvals for birth certificates for the children of immigrants, all within a space of just a few years. Former Sabah NRD Director Ramli Kamaruddin said that he received instructions from the deputy home minister Megat Junid Megat Ayub to issue identity card receipts to immigrants using the details of people who were already in the electoral roll but had never voted before. Yakup Damsah, a former Tamparuli NRD chief, revealed that he and a group of others signed a total of 40,000 blue identity cards within a month, based on the filled up application forms that consisted mostly of Muslim immigrants from Indonesia and the Philippines. His group was also involved in another operation in which they issued temporary identity card receipts (NRD receipts) with an expiry date, purely for the purpose of elections. Another former Sabah NRD officer, Mohd Nasir, said that between the years 1992-1995, the former Sabah Elections Commission director Wan Ahmad, handed over a list of 16,000 names to be made into 'bumiputera Islam voters' so that it will provide unqualified immigrants with identity card numbers which could be used to vote in the elections and thereby altering Sabah's electoral demographics in the 1990's. This illegal operation was codenamed 'Ops Durian Buruk'. It is believed that all these alleged electoral tinkering had brought about the outcome of election results which overall favoured the BN government. What we can conclude from these witnesses is that way back almost 2 decades ago, it was possible to manually register foreign immigrants as voters as fast as 40,000 people within one month. Existing voters who are already in the electoral roll but have never voted before could be potential targets to be 'cloned' and used by foreign immigrants to cast votes on Election Day. The probability of a foreign immigrant being registered as a voter under the 'bumiputera Muslim' category is very high. This process can be executed with relative ease and in discreet, involving just a handful of people. The 6P programme which ran from July 2011 to April 2012 had registered more than 1.3 million immigrants under the biometric system. Is BN replicating the Sabah formula for the coming GE? If they are then PR chances of winning will be greatly reduced!

Khaled: Govt has no intention of brainwashing students(The Star, 22 Jan 2013) - The Government has no intention of brainwashing students through campus activities, said Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin. He said the allegation that the Government had been brainwashing students via activities such as forums was not true since it defeated the purpose of higher education. "There is no intention whatsoever to brainwash the students, it will not help us to achieve our aim to instil critical thinking skills among the students," Mohamed Khaled told reporters here. He reiterated that neither the ministry nor Universiti Utara Malaysia were behind the public forum held at UUM involving undergraduate K.S. Bawani and SW1M president Sharifah Zohra Jabeen Syed Shah Miskin. The forum became a controversy when a video clip emerged on YouTube showing Sharifah Zohra Jabeen berating Bawani over free higher education.

An Open Letter to the Prime Minister Posted: 21 Jan 2013 10:14 AM PST
Mr PM, do not keep quiet when the rakyat needs you most to speak and to provide leadership. Ibrahim Ali and Dr Mahathir will not be what they are today, frequently inciting racial and religious flame, had you spoken out and put them in place. You are the PM and not Dr Mahathir. Lembu Susu Dear Mr Prime Minister, Mr PM, in your speech, you have repeatedly presented yourself as the PM for all Malaysians and you have rightly said it so. But there has been many incidences that show what you said do not match what you do, and this, I am afraid will affect your honor and reputation. The recent outburst by Ibrahim Ali, calling the Muslims to burn the Alkitab created a wave of anger, frustration and tension for the peace-loving citizens of Malaysia. The rakyat also has not forgotten the call and the threat of the May 13 repeat during the Umno Assembly last year, and it was alarming; especially for those who have lived through that difficult period. But you were extremely quiet, when the rakyat needed you most. Malaysia cannot afford another May 13 repeat. There is too much at stake and no one wins if it ever happens. Everyone will lose, and I am afraid that the Malays will lose the most. You know that the NEP has created a group of Malays that are dependent on the Government's support to survive. They have very little self-resilience to take a shock proportion to a May 13 repeat. (The reality is that we need every race in Malaysia to make Malaysia, Malaysia. No one race is superior to another. Every race is important and needed in the development and building of Malaysia. The Malays cannot say that they do not need the Chinese, neither can the Chinese say that to Indian, or to the Ibans, or Kadazan Dusun, etc., that they do not need them. All are needed and all must have a place in Malaysia because they are born here.) May I appeal to you, Mr PM, to use all your power vested in your position, to stop any threat of a repeat of May 13. You must nip it at its bud. You have the Police, the Judiciary, the Parliament, the armed forces, and the whole rakyat with you to do everything possible to quench any 'May 13' fire that anyone may want to stoke. Malaysia is unique. We have existed in harmony for many years as a multi-racial and multi-religious country. Every race and religion has restrained themselves to preserve the peace and harmony that we cherish so much. Many people in the past, have given up their lives and blood to fight for the peace we now enjoy. But this peace and harmony is fragile. It cannot be allowed to be attacked by selfish politicians and leaders. It must be preserved at all cost. If I can say, you are appointed by Allah for such a time as this to preserve the peace, unity and harmony of this country. Because of this responsibility, you must not allow anyone to stir or stoke racial or religious sentiments for their own personal gain. Malaysia must wake up to the fact, that though Islam is the religion of the Federation, Malaysia is still a multi-racial and multi-religious country where freedom of religion is enshrined in the Constitution. No one should impose their beliefs onto another religion. There must be mutual respect for each other's faith. You must not allow the issue on the word "Allah" to get out of hand. Every religion will have their beliefs contrary to another religion. This is alright as the Constitution guarantees the freedom of religion. But no one should be allowed to tell another religion what word they can use and what word they cannot use. If this is allowed, there will be war. So, please, Mr PM, do not keep quiet when the rakyat needs you most to speak and to provide leadership. Ibrahim Ali and Dr Mahathir will not be what they are today, frequently inciting racial and religious flame, had you spoken out and put them in place. You are the PM and not Dr Mahathir. I hope being a PM you can see yourself above politics, race and religion. You act because you also love Malaysia and want to see Malaysia live in harmony, as you have constantly boasted to other countries of Malaysians, in spite of the different races and religious beliefs, Malaysians can exist in harmony and peace. |
